I'm Evelyn LiVoti, the owner of By Detail. I am a freelance graphic designer.
Education
I am a graduate of the highly acclaimed American Writers and Artists Institute (AWAI), specializing in Direct Mail Graphic Design. I also hold degrees in both Computer Science and Physics.
Career
I began my career as a software development contractor in the nuclear industry, specializing in real-time simulation programming. I was fortunate to work in a small group. It allowed me to be a programmer, a systems analyst, a computer technician and a technical writer. It was a great way to learn how to manage entire projects.
Later, I initiated and produced a newsletter for a newly established organization. This is where my computer experience and love of design evolved into a new career.
Design
Despite my highly technical career, my hobby has always been design. At 12, I was drawing floor plans and subscribing to interior design magazines. In school, the layouts of my lab books had my teachers worried that I was spending too much time on them. It might seem like being a programming geek is at odds with being an artsy designer yet it's amazing how much I used my design skills in programming and how my programming skills are helping in design.
Additional Background
I am a native of Oswego, NY but grew up in DeWitt, NY. I returned to my roots, attending college at Oswego State. After graduation, I decided to stay in the Oswego area and settled in nearby Fulton. It was the mid-point between work and home. I'll admit it. I don't love the winters. But I love the area and the people. It also keeps me close to my family. Only one of my husbands 6 siblings doesn't live in the area. And during a summer in Illinois, I discovered how much I missed living near Lake Ontario - despite the lake effect snow!
